Meet Our Pack
National Black Dog Day at Page Cellars
Every October 1st, we pause to celebrate National Black Dog Day—a day dedicated to raising awareness about the challenges black dogs face in adoption and to celebrating the loyal, lovable companions they are.
Here at Page Cellars, this day has special meaning because some of our most beloved “team members” are black dogs who are part of the winery family. They greet us after long days, remind us to pause for joy, and even make an occasional cameo at the tasting room or out exploring the vines.
What is National Black Dog Day?
National Black Dog Day was founded by animal behaviorist Colleen Paige to shed light on “Black Dog Syndrome”—the sad reality that black-coated dogs are often overlooked in shelters in favor of lighter-colored animals.
Why does this happen?
Photographic Challenges: Black dogs can be harder to photograph, making it tough for their personality to shine in adoption listings.
Superstitions: Outdated myths sometimes cast black dogs in a negative light.
Adoption Rates: Sadly, this results in black dogs having lower adoption rates and higher euthanasia rates.
National Black Dog Day encourages us to challenge these stereotypes, celebrate black dogs, and give them the loving homes they deserve. At Page Cellars The Black Dog Effect is strong. Once you know one, you fall in love. The indisputable, irresistible charm of our pack proves that black dogs aren’t overlooked here… in fact, they run the place! 🐾🍷

Want to join us in making a difference? Here are a few ways:
🐾 Adopt a black dog: If you’re looking to expand your family, consider giving a black pup a forever home.
🖤 Support local shelters: Donate time, money, or supplies to organizations caring for dogs in need.
📲 Spread the word: Post a photo of your black-coated pup and use #NationalBlackDogDay to help raise awareness.
🍷 Bring your pup to Page Cellars: Our patio is pup-friendly! Celebrate your furry friend with a relaxing glass of wine in hand and a wagging tail at your side.
At Page Cellars, we believe community is built on love, connection, and celebrating all of life’s stories—the ones in our wine bottles and the ones curled up at our feet.
So today, we raise a toast to Hank, Isla, Skillet, Scout — and to every black dog waiting for a forever home. 🖤🐾 Cheers to wagging tails, vineyard trails, and second chances.
